A New Year, A New Network: Enhancing Connectivity at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club

As the new year kicked off, we had the opportunity to undertake a major network infrastructure upgrade at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club, ensuring their systems were prepared for the demands of 2024 and beyond.
Project Overview
The primary goal of this project was to enhance network efficiency, reliability, and organisation by replacing outdated hardware, improving cabling infrastructure, and optimising connectivity. We removed obsolete equipment, installed new hardware, and reorganised the setup to create a streamlined and future-proof network environment. By improving cable management and rerouting key infrastructure, we were able to increase operational efficiency while ensuring a clean and secure system for the club’s needs.
Key Improvements & Upgrades
1. Decommissioning & Cabinet Organisation
✔ Removal of outdated network switches from the CCTV cabinet ✔ Full cabinet clean-up to make space for new hardware
2. Hardware Installation & Upgrades
✔ Replaced old, brittle cabinet nuts to ensure secure mounting ✔ Installed a brand-new patch panel, organising all CCTV network cables for better management ✔ Deployed a new PoE switch to centralise and streamline network control
3. Cabling & Connectivity Enhancements
✔ Fitted new patch leads from the patch panel to the switch for a clean, organised setup ✔ Rerouted the Starlink and Draytek units from their previous locations into the CCTV cabinet, optimising space and reducing cable clutter ✔ Transferred all CAT5 cables and the existing patch panel from a smaller cabinet into the CCTV cabinet, utilising loft space for an efficient cable management approach
4. System Testing & Final Optimisation
✔ Installed new patch cables and rigorously tested all connections ✔ Verified stable internet connectivity and confirmed all network devices were fully operational
