The Yate Outdoor Sports Complex (YOSC) is a renowned sporting venue, offering a wide array of athletic facilities and outdoor activities. Despite their reputation in the field of sports, YOSC realised the need for upgrading their IT infrastructure to match their quality services. Look Creative was chosen as their trusted partner to bring this transformation to life.
When we first visited YOSC, we immediately identified areas of improvement. Their network cabinet, the heart of their IT infrastructure, was disorganised and in dire need of a clean. Moreover, their existing BT router was outdated and inefficient, and the cabling was haphazard, contributing to an overall lack of efficiency and performance.
A New Beginning with an Organised Network Cabinet
Our first task was to give the network cabinet a complete makeover. We replaced the BT router with a high-performance Draytek router, ensuring a robust and reliable connection. We swapped out the old cabling with neatly arranged yellow 0.5m patch cables and installed an efficient cable management system. This overhaul resulted not just in improved aesthetics, but also in enhanced functionality and easier troubleshooting.
Elevating Connectivity with Ubiquiti Access Point
The next step in the IT transformation was installing a Ubiquiti access point in the clubhouse, above the bar area. This strategically placed access point now provides robust WiFi coverage, serving both public and staff networks. The public network includes a user-friendly landing page, clearly defined terms and conditions, and bandwidth limits to ensure fair usage. The staff network, on the other hand, has no imposed speed limit, providing a seamless online experience for the YOSC staff.
The Future: Potential Switch Upgrade
To further boost the network performance at YOSC, we discussed the potential upgrade of their current 24-port 10/100Mbps switch. A new Ubiquiti 24-port switch with Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality was suggested. This future-proof upgrade will cater to any additional PoE devices they might incorporate into their network.
